YouTube VR launches on Oculus Go

YouTube VR

At the Oculus Connect 5 conference, a few headline grabbing announcements were made including the new Oculus Quest headset and YouTube VR. The latter presumably in response to the knowledge that the Oculus Go was being used to consume video or ‘passive’ content 80% of the time. With games making up the difference.  Conversely, the Quest was expected to be used to play games 80% of the time with media and video content taking up the slack.

On the Oculus Go this passive consumption of video content has been driven primarily via apps such as Netflix, Hulu and Pluto TV as well as through Oculus TV.  The introduction of YouTube VR now brings a further 800 VR experiences to users of the device.

Using YouTube VR, Oculus Go users can position themselves in a VR movie theatre or comfortable living space to watch the VR videos which include concert videos and nature documentaries.
